CJP asks IHC CJ check veracity of Justice Siddiqui's allegations
ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar Monday asked the Islamabad High Court (IHC) Chief Justice to comment on the veracity of allegations levelled against him by Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui.
The IHC Chief Justice has also been asked to obtain material / evidence from Justice Siddiqui available with him, if any, to substantiate the allegations levelled in the speech delivered at Rawalpindi Bar Association, an SC press release said.
Such material / evidence, if any, and the comments of the (IHC) Chief Justice will be transmitted to the office of the Chief Justice of Pakistan for consideration and appropriate action, if necessary, it added.
The press release said taking the serious notice of Justice Siddiqui's speech by the CJP, the transcript and record was obtained by the court. The allegations levelled in the speech cast aspersions and maligned the superior judiciary and berated its independence, it added.
"It also implicates Chief Justice, Islamabad High Court and some other national institutions," the press release said.
