YouTube experiments on ‘Explore’ tab to help users find videos

Social media platform YouTube has lately been testing a feature through which users can easily discover new videos and channels.

YouTube is experimenting with a new ‘Explore’ feature that will help users find new channels and videos easily on the site while browsing on phone, but only for iOS users for now.

YouTube’s director of product management and host of the platform’s Creator Insider channel, Tom Leung informed that the new feature will pop up as a ‘tab’ at the bottom of the app’s home screen for selected 1% iOS users starting today.

YouTube’s new tool to notify creators about their stolen videos

As per The Verge, Explore tab will advice videos based on what users already watch, but with a ‘broader scope’ than the home screen already does. Leung explained, “Explore is designed to help you be exposed to different kinds of topics, videos, or channels that you might not otherwise encounter, but they’re still personalized — so they’re still based on your viewing activity.”

“For example, if you’ve been watching a lot of videos about telescopes, in Explore you might see videos about high-end cameras. It’s going to give you a little more variety,” continued Leung.

The tab at present will replace the ‘Trending’ section, which will still be available with a shortcut on the Explore tab. Leung believes that this tab will help creators reach more viewers even when the content doesn’t reach the Trending section. Leung says that once the experiment has ‘run its course’, the video streaming site will update its community on what are the results, wrote 9to5Google.
