The 2nd indigenous on campus training (IOT) workshop for the management cadre (BPS-16 and above) officers concluded here other day. Dean Faculty of Natural Sciences Dr Abdul Rasool Abbasi presided over the concluding ceremony. The workshop comprising 15 sessions, starting from May 18 and concluding on May 22, 2015, was planned and organised by the SU Quality Enhancement Cell and Planning and Development in collaboration with the Higher Education Commission(HEC) under its modern university governance programme and capacity-building of non-teaching staff.
As many as 30 officers of Sindh University and directors as well as principals of various SU affiliated colleges of Jamshoro, Kotri and Hyderabad participated in the workshops titled 'leadership in management'. This workshop offers a unique opportunity to non-teaching staff to enhance their capacity and productivity", said Dean Faculty of Natural Sciences Abdul Rasool Abbasi.
He said that the officers were the facilitators of the university and there was a need to equip the staff with skills that would enrich their knowledge through the usage of modern trends and technologies. The focal person for the training and SU advisor planning & development cell Sajid Qayoom Memon said that IOT was a unique opportunity under the auspices of HEC for universities' non-teaching staff and employees to enhance their capacity and productivity.
He said that this would increase effectiveness and lessen the communication gap among different stakeholders within and outside the universities. He said that the training was aimed at improving the efficiency of non-academic staff. Memon further said "the interactive and real life-like activity based sessions helped the participants a lot to learn how to deal with difficult situations at their job by mere application of management and organising skills." Course co-ordinator Dr Shahzad Memon said, "This IOT is designed to impart some important leadership skills that are essential for those who are working in different capacities and at different managerial levels in universities.
Dr Shahzad said that this was second time that SU organised training workshop for management cadre. It was a very positive sign as management cadre never had a chance to attend such training workshops either by SU or any other university and for this credit goes to HEC and its leadership that envisaged it. Ghulam Nabi Kaka, Director SU campus security, said, "I feel honoured after having had target oriented lectures and interaction with learned doctors.
