Pakistan's Ambassador to Germany, Syed Hasan Javed has said that Jammu & Kashmir is an internationally recognized disputed territory and any effort by the Indian Government to change the demography of the region is against the UN Security Council's Resolutions as India can not adopt unilateral steps which affect the ground realities.
He was addressing to the participants of a seminar, "Key to Regional Peace and Stability Lies in the Solution of Kashmir Dispute" organized by the Free Kashmir Organization, Berlin in collaboration with the Institute for Cultural Diplomacy (ICD) here on Saturday.
The Ambassador said that UN Security Council's resolutions on the State of Jammu & Kashmir were solemn undertakings by the international community, India and Pakistan to enable the Kashmiries through a plebiscite to determine whether they wanted to join India or Pakistan. Neither UN nor India or Pakistan can get away from the implementation of the resolutions for exercise of self-determination by the Kashmiries, he added. Syed Javed Hasan said that the Kashmir issue remained a challenge to global conscience and proponents of international understanding and human rights. Violations of Human Rights in Indian occupied Kashmir are a direct challenge to the conscience of the freedom, justice and morality loving people in the EU and the world as well to the UN and there is a need for an early solution of this dispute for a durable peace in the region, he added.
Chairman, Kashmir Council, EU, Brussels, Ali Raza Syed said that the people of Kashmir would not compromise on their right to freedom and the history had proved it. A nation that has over 100,000 martyrs and still not fearful of death, torture, insults and worst kind of human rights violations can not be silenced, Ali Raza said and added that the South Asia Region had a large population engrossed with poverty, health, education and unemployment issues. The region has to lift itself up and all this was not possible without a durable peace and peace is not possible without the resolution of the Kashmir issue, he concluded.
President of the Free Kashmir Organization, Dr Muhammad Siddiq Kiani highlighted the atrocities being committed by the Indian occupying forces on the people of Kashmir under the draconian laws, specially framed by the Indian Government to subjugate the people of Kashmir.
He drew the attention of the audience to the Indian Governments plans of setting up Composite Township for Pandits in Kashmir and construction of a wall along the Line of Control that separated Kashmir in violation of UN Security Council's Resolutions that bound both India and Pakistan not to make any attempt to change the demography and the status of the disputed territory. Kiani said that it was unfortunate that those who had been advocating freedom, justice, peace, and human rights in the so called civilized world had closed their eyes on the plight of the Kashmiri people.
