The Karachi Port handled 195,076 tonnes of cargo comprising 140,260 tonnes of import cargo and 54,816 tonnes of export cargo including 4,465 loaded and empty containers during the last 48 hours ending at 0700 hours on Monday. The total import cargo of 140,260 tonnes comprised of 69,917 tonnes of containerised cargo; 8,337 tonnes of general cargo; 7,218 tonnes of bulk cargo: 6,989 tonnes of soyabean meal; 229 tonnes of DAP and 54,788 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 54,816 tonnes comprised of 48,271 tonnes of containerised cargo; 420 tonnes of general cargo and 6,125 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 4,465 containers comprising of 2,524 containers import and 1,941 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Monday. The breakup of imported containers shows 1,517 of 20's and 497 of 40's loaded while 1 of 20's and 6 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 902 of 20's and 245 of 40's loaded containers while 305 of 20's and 122 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.
There were nine ships namely Commodore, Northern Guild, APL Guangzhou, Sudair, Al Mahboobah, DL Aster, Salzgitter, Izumi and Poavosa Wisdom-VIII carrying containers, chemical, car carrier, general cargo and DAP respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. There were ten vessels viz. KMTC Mumbai, Commodore, MOL Distinction, Captain Costas, Bright Dawn, New York Star, Glenden, Salzgitter, HR Revolution and NPS Mosa carrying containers, oil tankers, car carrier and general cargo respectively currently at the berths.
There were five ships namely KMTC Mumbai, MOL Distinction, Bright Dawn, Glenden and HR Revolution carrying containers, oil tankers and general cargo respectively sailed out to sea on Monday, while another ship namely Hanne Danica carrying general cargo is expected to sail on Tuesday. There were five vessels viz. Hyundai Busan, Posen, Atlantic Jupiter, AS Omaria and Hanne Danica carrying containers, chemical, oil tanker and general cargo respectively due to arrive on Monday, while three vessels viz. YM Excellence, Oriental Explorer and Mandarin Ocean carrying containers and steel respectively are due to arrive on Tuesday.
