Religious scholars on Tuesday assured the government of their all-out support in its efforts for promoting religious harmony and following uniform prayer timings in country. Over 2000 Ulema from all schools of thought held out the assurance at a Convention on Nizam-e-Salat which was organised by Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony at Convention Centre.
They lauded the efforts of government in further promoting the religious harmony and said these steps would bring about positive results besides grooming a healthy society. Speaking on the occasion, Federal Minister for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony Sardar Muhammad Yousuf said that after implementation in Federal Capital, the uniform prayers timings would also be implemented across the country with the co-operation of Members Ulema Committee.
He said that Nizam-e-Salat Committee, after hectic efforts, had evolved a consensus on uniform prayer timings in all mosques of Islamabad. The Minister said the Religious Ministry has published a special prayer calendar, which has been sent to the mosques, adding it was aimed at promoting unity, discipline and harmony in the nation. He urged the media to play its role in motivating the public for this prayer system.
He pointed out that schools, universities, government organisations and business entities would also follow the same prayer timings. Appreciating Nizam-e-Salat Ulema Committee, he said that the Committee worked hard and strived for convincing all schools of thought in this regard. He informed that Sehr-o-Iftar timings during Ramazan had also been fixed with the consensus of Ulema. Sardar Yousaf said that the Holy Quran and Sunnah provided complete code of life for the humanity. He asked Muslims to follow the teachings of the Holy Quran and life of the Holy Prophet (Peace Be Upon Him) to ensure success in this world and Hereafter.
He urged for establishment of Quran Complex besides formation of Islamic Education Commission for seminaries on the lines of Higher Education Commission (HEC). He said that Arabic Language should be made compulsory subject for proper and better understanding of the Holy Quran and Hadith. The Ministry would take on board the Education Ministry for this purpose and a bill would be introduced in the parliament in this regard, he added. Speaking on the occasion, State Minister for Religious Affairs, Pir Ameen ul Hasnat said that implementation of uniform prayer timings was the need of hour. He said that the government was trying its best to promote culture of tolerance and forbearance in the country. No segment of society would be ignored and input on important religious matters would be ensured from Mashaikh also, he added.
According to the Religious Ministry calendar, the Azan and Prayers timings are: Fajar: Azan at beginning of morning and the prayer would be offered after 30 minutes of Azan, in Ramazan after 20 minutes. Zohar: Azan 1:00pm and Prayer 1:15pm (15 October to 14 April).Zohar: Azan 1:15 pm and Prayer 1:30pm (15 April to 14 October). Juma-tul-Mubarik: 12:45 first Azan, prayer timing on 1:30pm for whole year. Asr: Mislain time and prayer after 10 minutes. Mathis: Azan after Sunset and prayer after 2 minutes of Azan. Isha: Azan would be after 1 hour and 45 minutes of Sunset and prayer after 15 minutes of the Azan.
