The Kidney Centre Post Graduate Training Institute (TKC-PGTI)is a non-profit specialised hospital providing a comprehensive renal care, either free-of-cost or at largely subsidised rates to over 70 percent of its patients since 1985. Owing to the ever-growing number of renal patients, the dialysis unit at The Kidney Centre was recently expanded.
"The new dialysis unit, dedicated in memory of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, is an integrated modern facility that runs in four shifts and can accommodate 66 dialysis patients at a time" said Marriana Karim, Chairman, Board of Governors. She further stated that "previously only 40,000 dialysis sessions were performed annually but now, with this expansion, we will be able to perform 82,500 dialysis sessions annually."
Speaking at the occasion, the Health Minister said that "Each year more than 18,000 individuals are likely to require hemodialysis, therefore, with the continuous and alarming increase of End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) patients, the dialysis facility at The Kidney Centre had to be extended."-PR
