Partly Facetious: Muk mukaa not good politics

"You know what is the guiding principle or overarching objective of our politicians?"
Published May 28, 2015

"You know what is the guiding principle or overarching objective of our politicians?"
"Well, there is no one answer - it depends on who you ask."
"What do you mean?"
"Well, the Khan would say muk mukaa of the two erstwhile national parties?"
"Erstwhile?"
"Well, the PPP has to remerge as a national party and..."
"No Zardari bashing please - as Zardari sahib rightly pointed out in a recent interview during the life of his spouse and former Chairperson the party won only 17 seats in the national assembly and did not have control over the provincial assembly."
"But Benazir Bhutto reversed the party's standing in the very next elections."
"Right and so you need to wait for the next election results before you make any comparisons. Anyway muk mukaa is not the principles I was referring to."
"OK, but the guiding principle of PML-N is also muk mukaa - I mean criticism of the PPP leadership is now non-existent, the guns are trained on the Khan alone, and investigation of cases against the PPP leadership are progressing at a snail's pace."
"Right, but what is interesting is that the dovish approach with other parties, barring the Khan's party, is followed by a hawkish approach within the party against all those who have the temerity to not criticize the party leader but just to present an alternate view."
"Hmmm, but the vote goes to the party leader or Mian sahib and..."
"Yes, the votes for some members of the cabinet but not all, Chaudhry Nisar wins his own seat, apparently he has done some good work in his constituency..."
"Right, but what enabled him to do the good work? The party, when in power I would like to bring to your notice".
"Well, I suppose but then what do you reckon is the guiding principle of our politicians: become yes men and meticulously follow instructions or else face expulsion or the wrath of the party leader?"
"Yes, of course, that's a given, a historical fact if you will but in my estimation the guiding principle is heads I win tails you lose. I mean it applies to all politicians - from party leader to an aspirant for a cabinet position or even a seat in the national or provincial assembly..." "You are being facetious." "Nope, never acknowledge one is wrong, that's what we see in all parties without exception."
