Pakistan and Belarus agreed to enhance bilateral co-operation, as Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko arrived on his first two-day State visit on Thursday. Upon arrival at Nur Kahn Airbase, President Alexander Lukashenko was received by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. The Belarusian President was presented 2-gun salute when his plane landed at the airbase. The visiting dignitary was presented bouquets of flowers by two children in traditional dress.
According to Foreign Office spokesperson Qazi Khalilulah, it is the first-ever visit of the Belarusian President to Pakistan, adding a number of important agreements and memoranda of understandings (MoUs) are expected to be signed during the visit. In his meeting with President Mamnoon Hussain, the two sides agreed to enhance co-operation. According to media office of the presidency, President Mamnoon Hussain said that Pakistan desires to build a broad based, substantive and long-term relationship with Belarus in all fields including trade, economic, education, defence, and culture.
The two dignitaries first had one-on-one meeting which was followed by delegation level talks. Welcoming the President of Belarus to Pakistan on his first visit, the President said that Pakistan values its relations with Belarus and both countries enjoy a warm and a cordial relationship. Speaking on the occasion, President of Belarus said that Pakistan is not responsible for spread of terrorism in the world alleging Pakistan in this regard is a misperception. The President of Belarus stated that his country is also keen to expand co-operation and partnership with Pakistan in all areas of mutual interest for further cementing the bilateral ties. Later, President Mamnoon Hussain hosted a state banquet in the honour of his Belarusian counterpart. Belarus established its resident Mission in Islamabad in November 2014. "President Lukashenko's visit will help in strengthening the exiting ties between the two countries," said Foreign Office spokesperson.
