The Government of Sindh with a vision to encourage investment in the SME sector, inculcate entrepreneurial ability and to provide a major push to the wider Agri-economy, has created Sindh Enterprise Development Fund to provide legal as well as institutional mechanism to achieve such objectives.
It aims to provide opportunities for value-addition in the agriculture sector for multiple economic benefits on growth, intermediary services and productivity. It also seeks to introduce farm level interventions to improve efficiency and profitability.
Priority Sectors SEDF aims to provide technical & financial assistance in the following priority sectors:
Agro-Processing, Dairy & Livestock Farming, Poultry, Fisheries, Horticulture & Floriculture, Storage and Cold Chain, Mining and Processing of Minerals, Energy (Use of Solar, Bio-Gas & Wind as a source of energy).
Technical Assistance
1. Assistance in preparing feasibilities
2. Assistance in obtaining loan from banks
3. Preparation of SEDF's Application
Financial Assistance
1. Payment of interest (KIBOR)
2. 100% on capital cost
3. 50% on working capital
SEDF Achievements:
1. Red Chilli Growers - SEDF in collaboration with Pakistan Agriculture Coalition and Habib Bank Limited is providing subsidised credit to about 2000 Red Chilli growers in Sindh amounting to Rs 300 million annually. It will bring the farmer in the fold of formal farm credit ridding him from the clutches of middleman. Buyer's platform has also been established to ensure right price for his produce.
2. Dairy Land Pvt Ltd, Thatta - project (total cost Rs 180 Million) with a capacity of 1500 cows, introducing modern dairy farming ensuring better milk yield & compliance with Bio Safety Standards. Generating direct employment of 250 people & indirect employment of 150 people.
3. Ispahani Foods Environmentally Controlled Poultry Farm - project (total cost of Rs 115.6 million) with a capacity of 120,000 birds / flock. The poultry industries are adopting new technologies in the field to enhance productivity and minimise infection risks. Environment controlled sheds is one of the technological advancement being used to counteract the adverse effect of head stress by providing tunnel ventilation and enhancing the wind chill effect.
These sheds, when equipped with automatic chain feeding and nipple drinking systems, make the environment conductive for poultry production and reduce the risk of bacteria during seasons.
4. The Organic Meat Company (Pvt) Ltd - project (total cost of Rs 198.77 Million) with a capacity of 350 tons export per month. The company wishes to expand its existing slaughter house by introducing offal production and expansion of vacuum based packing technology to cater increasing demand of processed meat in Middle East Countries.
5. Reliance Exim (Pvt) Ltd of Unity Group - project (total cost of Rs 190 Million) with a capacity of 30,000 tons annually. Unity Group has strong belief that by installing the maize storage system and procession facility in Sindh, it will give confidence to Sindh Growers to Grow More and Export More.
6. BlueScope Refer Solution at Jinnah International Airport - project (total cost of Rs 140 Million) with a capacity of 1500 tons, to provide technologically advanced cold store for fresh horticulture products, reducing post harvest losses due to absence of such facilities leading to exportable surplus.
