A meeting to overview the progress of rehabilitation work of the Mirpur-Kotli Road near the Khaliqabad Chowk was held at the WAPDA House, with Chairmanship of the Additional Secretary, the Ministry of Water and Power at PWD Rest House Mirpur chairing it. The meeting looked into concerns by the government of Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
The meeting also drew in Chief Secretary, AJK, Chief Engineering Adviser/Chairman Federal Flood Commission, Member (Sindh) IRSA, Member (Water) WAPDA, Member (Power) WAPDA, Technical Advisors to WAPDA Authority, Commissioners Mirpur Division and Mangla Dam Affairs, project authorities and technical experts/engineers from NESPAK and Mirpur University of Science and Technology (MUST), AJK.
Commissioner Mirpur and Dean MUST delivered a presentation on their concerns on the collapse of Mirpur-Kotli dual carriageway near Khaliqbad Chowk and the methodology for repair of the reservoir rim. After detailed discussion and deliberation by WAPDA and NESPAK experts, all the technical issues were clarified, which resulted into a consensus among all the stake holders. Subsequently, the participants inspected the ongoing remedial measures at the site and expressed satisfaction on the methodology and quality of work. Chief Secretary AJK emphasized for early completion of the work so that the impounding benefits could be harnessed. It was also decided that a weekly meeting of WAPDA, NESPAK and AJK technical experts will be held by the Commissioner Mirpur Division to review the progress and issue the minutes to all the quarters concerned.
