The country's import of soybean oil nosedived to $855,000 in April 2015, down by 96 percent, the government figures have said. The fall stands huge by $20.583 million in April 2015 from $21.438 million in April 2014, Pakistan Bureau of Statistics showed. In term of quantity, soybean oil import slumped to mere 757 metric tons in April 2015 from 22,517 metric tons in April 2014, depicting a decrease of 21,760 metric tons or 97 percent.
During July-April 2014-15, the country's soybean oil import plunged to $38.168 million from $79.407 metric tons in July-April 2013-14, the statistics indicated a decline of $41.239 million or 52 percent. The volume of soybean oil import scaled down by 40,229 metric tons or 52 percent to 38,944 metric tons in July-April 2014-15 from 79,173 metric tons in July-April 2013-14, the bureau said.
Import of palm oil decreased to $116.961 million in April 2015 from $161.316 million in April 2014. The edible oil import volume also went down by 12,428 metric tons or seven percent to 173,743 metric tons in April 2015 from 186,171 metric tons in April 2014. In July-April 2014-15, palm oil import reduced by $72.481 million five percent to $1.456 billion from $1.529 billion in July-April 2013-14. The edible oil import volume during the period however grew by 75,938 metric tons over four percent to 1,924,500 metric tons from the last fiscal year 1,848,562 metric tons.
