Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Saturday said that terrorism and extremism constitute the biggest challenge to a secure and prosperous Pakistan. The Prime Minister also expressed his serious concerns about recent statements by Indian Political leadership. The premier said in unequivocal terms that "we would take all possible measures to counter any anti-Pakistan move".
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Chief of the Army Staff (CoAS) General Raheel Sharif visited the ISI Headquarters. Their visit came after Friday night's incident in Mastung district (Balochistan) where gunmen kidnapped about two dozen passengers from two Karachi-bound coaches and killed at least 22 of them.
According to ISPR, Director General ISI Lieutenant-General Rizwan Akhtar briefed the Prime Minister and the Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) on internal and external security situation and the on-going counter terrorism operations. The PM lauded the efforts and achievements of ISI in countering terrorists' attempts and paid rich tributes to the officers and men of the agency who laid their lives in the line of duty. PM said "we are proud of our premier intelligence agency and they deserve due recognition and acknowledgement".
The PM said that terrorism and extremism are the biggest challenge to a 'secure and prosperous Pakistan.' He showed his concern over actions of foreign intelligence agencies in destabilising the country. He reiterated the resolve that we will collectively defeat all designs of our enemies and make Pakistan a secure and affluent country no matter what is the cost.
He emphasised the need for more proactive and co-ordinated role of all intelligence agencies to bring optimum effects to defeat all threats. Ishaq Dar, Finance Minister, Khawaja Asif, Defence Minister and Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Interior Minister, Special Advisors to PM on foreign affairs Sartaj Aziz and Tariq Fatemi accompanied the PM.
