Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif Tuesday urged the nation to stand united and foil enemy attempts aimed at creating divisions on ethnic, provincial, linguistic and sectarian grounds. Chairing a meeting of political leaders here at the Governor's House during his day-long visit to the provincial metropolis, the Prime Minister appreciated that the people of Pakistan now understood who was behind it.
He said there were elements that did not like to see progress and development in the country and wanted to push back the country. The Prime Minister termed the Mastung incident tragic and expressed the resolve that justice would be done. He also appreciated the local leaders who handled the matter with political acumen.
He said the enemy of the country wanted to create divisions in the country on ethnic, provincial, linguistic, sectarian and religious lines, so as to sow dissent. "However we must not forget that we are Pakistanis first and being Pakistani we cannot allow any such divisions to seep in," the Prime Minister said. He said not only were there local elements that were trying to create dissent, there were also foreign ones that wanted to create destability in the country.
He said the people of Balochistan had once again proved that they were above personal losses and gains when it related to the national unity and a national cause. The Prime Minister said the overall law and order situation in the country has improved significantly, he however noted that there was still room for further improvement. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif briefed the participants about his earlier meeting on law and order where he got a briefing by senior officers of police, FC and intelligence agencies about the incident.
He said that Quetta would soon have its peace and tranquility again and the miscreants would be wiped out. He said the good old days, when people from far flung areas used to head to Quetta for summer vacations, would return. He said not only the situation in Quetta and other parts of Balochistan but also rest of the country would significantly improve.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said he had visited the former sanctuaries and hideouts of the terrorists and saw how these had been eliminated. He said that Pakistan suffered massive economic losses to the tune of US $110 billion at the hands of extremists and terrorists. He said that Pakistan was paying a heavy price in its fight against terrorism and would rid the country of this menace at all costs.
Sharif said terrorists' network had been busted. The Prime Minister said in the process the valiant men in uniform had laid down their lives. The perpetrators of the Mastung incident would not be spared and they would have to pay a heavy price, he added. He said effective decision making was bringing peace to the country and things were improving. He regretted that lots of time has been wasted in taking decisions in the past, but said that situation was improving, since the PML-N government took over. PM said same was the issue of power generation which was impeding national progress and prosperity, and added that present government was tackling vital national issues with great determination.
