National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) is said to have filled the slot of one legal advisor and one assistant legal advisor by violating its rules. Nepra had sought applications for recruitment of legal advisor and two assistant legal advisors. Documentary evidence available with Business Recorder reveals that NEPRA selected two legal advisors instead of one even though the advertisement mentioned only one vacancy.
One selected candidate for post of Legal Advisor is a full-time bonafide student of LLM in corporate Law in International Islamic University Islamabad (lIUI) till-date. He has completed coursework but has not completed the research component of the degree which is a mandatory requirement for the award of LLM degree. As per the Higher Education Commission (HEC) rules and regulations, without completion of coursework and successful completion of research work LLM degree can not be awarded. The candidate is at present undertaking his research-thesis on "A Case of Alternative Trading System in the Capital Market of Pakistan" and is enrolled as full-time student.
One of the selected candidates for the post of assistant legal advisor is the younger bother of a former legal advisor of Nepra - the man who short-listed applicants, set the paper and evaluated the answer sheet. Repeated attempts to contact the selected candidates through phone, text messages, have proved futile.
