The city police on Monday arrested the third cop of Muhafiz Squad involved in killing of the two real brothers in the limits of New Town police station on late Saturday night. The fourth cope namely Umair involved in the incident is still at large. The cope arrested by the police was identified as Zubair Altaf.
The two cops of Muhafiz Squad on late Saturday night killed two real brother Shakeel Butt and Zeeshan Butt for allegedly not stopping at a police check point, at College Road in Satellite Town area of Rawalpindi. A police official said that an investigation team of police recorded the statement of ASI Muhammad Sharif along with two constables - Zaheer Ahmed and Zubair Altaf.
He said that the City Police Officer (CPO) Israr Ahmed Khan Abbasi, while taking notice of the incident has constituted a special raiding team under the supervision of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) (Operations) Karamat Ullah Malik. The police team conduct raids in various areas and arrested the cop Zubair Altaf and shifted him to new town police station, he said. He said that following the incident police arrested ASI Muhammad Sharif and a constable Zaheer Ahmed and murder cases were registered against them.
Regional Police Officer (RPO) Wisal Fakhar Sultan Raja gave a detailed briefing to the police officers and cops in Police Line Number 1. On the occasion, CPO Israr Ahmed Khan Abbasi, SSP (Operations) Karamat Ullah Malik, SP Potowar, Rawal and Sadar Circles, SDPOs and SHOs of all the police stations were also present. He directed the police officers and cops to follow the Standard Operation Procedure (SOPs) of imparting duties at Nakas and check posts. Family members of the deceased brothers and people from different walks of life also staged a protest demonstration against the police brutality in front of Holy Family hospital.
