Reiterating his offer of re-elections under the military to clear the rigging controversy during the local governments' elections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Insaf chairman Imran Khan on Monday laughed off the rumours that his party government in KP might resign under pressure. Talking to reporters outside Supreme Court after appearing before the judicial commission, he challenged the parties demanding resignation of the provincial government to be ready for re-election if they think their mandate was stolen.
"We' accept there was mismanagement as it was the responsibility of the ECP and they should have ensured transparent polls...if you are sincere to get rid of rigging, let's go for a re-election and things will be crystal clear whose mandate was stolen," he added.
PTI chairman categorically stated that Awami National Party (ANP), Pakistan People's Party (PPP) and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazal - the tripartite alliance that faced humiliating defeat in KP LG elections - must stop teaching morality as they stood by Nawaz Sharif when PTI demanded opening of only four constituencies. "I want to expose the double standard of these three political parties [PPP,ANP and JUI-F] as their leaders kept saying that 2013 general elections were rigged but when we staged a sit-in they stood by Nawaz Sharif and now they want us to resign from KP assembly," he regretted.
He said that the PTI is ready to hold re-elections in whatever constituency where the candidates of the tripartite alliance want re-elections, adding that PTI provincial government has even made clear time and again that it is already for holding re-election under the military.
He reminded the leadership of opposition political parties seeking dissolution of the KP provincial not to forget when they declared PTI undemocratic when it demanded a transparent audit of the 2013 general despite agreeing the elections were massively rigged. Imran reiterated that the PTI was still ready for holding re-election throughout the province, adding that those who have reservation 'must not waste a single minute' and approach the Election Commission of Pakistan for holding re-election.
"We did not hold the elections as it was the responsibility of ECP, but even then we're ready for re-polling...we'd no idea how to rig the polls and we've come to know that ANP and JUI-F have done rigging in recent LG polls and this is the reason they're afraid of re-election," he maintained.
He said that if the PTI had done rigging in the LG elections it would not have agreed for a re-election, adding that the way Nawaz Sharif was afraid of holding re-election as he came into power through a rigged election and any re-election would have been the 'last nail in the coffin of his government.' Imran also said this is the difference between PTI and PML-N as his party had no objection over re-poling, adding that PML-N is hiding behind stay orders, while some cases are still pending before election tribunals.
