The Karachi Port handled 163,624 tonnes of cargo comprising 132,972 tonnes of import cargo and 30,652 tonnes of export cargo including 5,564 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Tuesday. The total import cargo of 132,972 tonnes comprised of 43,678 tonnes of containerised cargo; 22,885 tonnes of general cargo; 35,343 tonnes of bulk cargo: 24,363 tonnes of coal; 5,375 tonnes of soyabean meal; 4,477 tonnes of DAP; 1,128 tonnes of palm kernal expeller and 31,066 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 30,652 tonnes comprised of 25,368 tonnes of containerised cargo and 5,284 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 5,564 containers comprising of 2,961 containers import and 2,603 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Tuesday.
The break-up of imported containers shows 1,181 of 20's and 808 of 40's loaded while nil of 20's and 82 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 915 of 20's and 357 of 40's loaded containers while 296 of 20's and 339 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.
There were four ships namely KMTC Dubai, Kota Kamil, UACC Falcon and MT Quetta carrying containers and oil tankers respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. There were seven vessels viz. Sima Prestige, X-Press Kailash, Songa Falcon, Urania, Iron Bravo-V, Amoy Fortune and Latina carrying containers, oil tankers, coal and general cargo respectively currently at the berths.
There were seven ships namely Sima Prestige, X-Press Kailash, Chem Master, Urania, Iron Bravo-V, Heilan Spring and Latina carrying containers, oil tankers, coal and general cargo respectively sailed out to sea on Tuesday. There were two vessels viz. ER Helgoland and Butinah carrying containers and rock phosphate respectively due to arrive on Tuesday, while six vessels viz. Ever Result, Hyundai Vancouver, Team Tango, MS Advanture, Mimasaka and Advantage carrying containers, rice, copra, steel and general cargo respectively due to arrive on Wednesday.
