The Karachi Port handled 168,637 tonnes of cargo comprising 142,152 tonnes of import cargo and 26,485 tonnes of export cargo including 5,136 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Thursday. The total import cargo of 142,152 tonnes comprised of 54,080 tonnes of containerised cargo; 5,404 tonnes of general cargo; 16,987 tonnes of bulk cargo: 5,463 tonnes of coal; 4,024 tonnes of soyabean meal; 7,500 tonnes rock phosphate and 65,681 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 26,485 tonnes comprised of 16,738 tonnes of containerised cargo; 725 tonnes of general cargo; 2,438 tonnes of rice and 6,584 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo. As many as 5,136 containers comprising of 3,202 containers import and 1,934 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Thursday.
The break-up of imported containers shows 1,632 of 20's and 748 of 40's loaded while 6 of 20's and 34 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 382 of 20's and 243 of 40's loaded containers while 296 of 20's and 385 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours.
There were eight ships namely ER Helgoland, YM Express, Dynamic Ocean-27, MT Karachi, Mimasaka, Amoy Fortune, Ocean Phoenix and Toxotis carrying containers, oil tankers, steel and coal respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. There were eight vessels viz. Alpine Minute, Team Tango, Dong Hai Jun-7001, Sharif Pioneer, Bofors, Osam Jumbo-5, Mimasaka and MH Adventure carrying oil tanker, rice, dredger, tug, steel and general cargo respectively currently at the berths.
There are four ships namely Hyundai Vancouver, Xpress Padma, Alpine Minute and Zhen Hua-7 carrying containers, oil tanker and general cargo respectively expected to sail on Friday. There were five vessels viz. Exprss Padma, SC Shanghai, Dong A Triton, Al-Soor-II and KSL Chaoyang carrying containers, molasses, MEG, steel and oil tanker due to arrive on Thursday, while five vessels viz. APL Guangzhou, APL Indonesia, Fowairet, Franbo Wind and Ocean Carrier carrying containers, SB Meal and steel respectively due to arrive on Friday.
