The Central Development Working Party (CDWP) approved six development projects worth Rs 88.005 billion, says a release issued here on Saturday. The meeting of CDWP was held under the chairmanship of Federal Minister Planning, Development and Reforms Ahsan Iqbal. The meeting was attended by sponsoring agencies, including representatives of provincial and federal departments. The approved six development projects have foreign exchange component of Rs 1.412 billion. Approved projects are related to science & technology, health, physical planning & housing and transport & communication.
The prominent among the approved projects is Vision 2025 Science Talent Farming Scheme (STFS) for 1800 students costing Rs 1.395 billion. Minister Planning, Development and Reforms commended the project that would help identify science talent at school level, train and groom the future scientists of the country by providing scholarships up to PhD level.
He directed that a purpose built residential Science College "National Science College (NSC) for scholars selected under the scheme on the pattern of cadet colleges should be included in the scheme to ensure grooming of future scientists in a conducive environment.
The working paper of STFS envisages online networking with global scientific centres of excellence and interaction with the eminent scientists around the globe and visits to leading universities and research centres etc. The CDWP also granted approval to "Land acquisition, affected properties compensation and relocation of utilities for China-Pak Economic Corridor (CPEC)-Raikot section (Phase-1) Havelian-Thakot (120 kms" project worth Rs 84.401 billion.
CDWP approved Establishment of Centre for Haematology Disorder at PIMS costing Rs 220.801 million with a foreign component of Rs 100 million. It also approved the project "Support to Infrastructure Development in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa" worth Rs 1312.50 million, which would totally foreign funded.
The construction of conference room and offices at Prime Minister House at the cost of Rs 121.339 million was also approved by CDWP. The construction, upgradation and rehabilitation of post flood reconstruction project wroth Rs 554.184 million was also approved by the CDWP. The meeting also gave clearance to concept proposal about financial assistance to KPK for medical waste treatment equipments for trauma/burns care, neurology, rehabilitation & installation of clean drinking water filtration plants under French Credit.
