The Flood Warning Centre (FWC) Lahore started functioning round-the-clock here on Monday at the Pakistan Meteorological Department Flood Forecasting Division prior to forthcoming flood season 2015 spread over from June to October. The FWC includes representatives of Irrigation department, WAPDA, Railway, National Highway Authority and Information department.
The telecommunication system of Police department would provide data of inflow and outflow of water at the barrages on rivers and canals to the FWC Director FFD Muhammad Ajmal Shad said that the Centre would issue two bulletins daily with regard to rivers situation and qualitative and quantitative flood forecast so that the authorities and the people living in low lying areas could take necessary protective measures.
Meanwhile in its preliminary monsoon 2015 outlook prepared by using local, regional and global data, the PMD has said that (a) Pre-Monsoon showers are expected during second fortnight of June and monsoon will attain its normal rhythm gradually toward the end of July, (b) in general, 2015 monsoon is expected weaker than normal, therefore less than normal rain is foreseen during June-August
Flood situation on today: In its first bulletin, the FFC said that river Kabul is in low flood at Nowshera with the flow of 72,000 cusecs of water. All other rivers, Indus, Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi and Sutlej are flowing in their state of normal flow. It further clarified that there was no likelihood of any flood at any place of the country during coming one week,
Countrywide weather outlook for today: Mainly hot and dry weather is expected in most parts of the country. However rain -thundershower associated with gusty winds is expected at scattered places of Punjab (D.G.Khan, Bahawalpur, Multan, Faisalabad, Lahore, Sahiwal divisions), Zhob, Kalat divisions, while at isolated places of upper Punjab (Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Sargodha divisions), D.I.Khan, Malakand, Hazara, Peshawar, Kohat divisions, FATA, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir.
Weather outlook next 48 hours: Rain-thundershower associated with gusty winds is expected at scattered places in Quetta, Kalat, Sibbi divisions, while at isolated places of Malakand, Hazara, D I Khan, Rawalpindi, D G Khan, Sukkur, Larkana, Karachi divisions, FATA, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.
Weather past twenty four hours: Rain-thundershower associated with gusty winds occurred at scattered places in Kashmir and Punjab, while at isolated places in upper KP and Gilgit-Baltistan. However, weather remained hot and dry in other parts of the country.
