Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif on Friday avowed that with unflinching national resolve and clear direction, the armed forces will accomplish their end objective of a terror-free Pakistan. While talking to troops in Khyber Agency where he spent entire day with them and tribals, he commended their sacrifices towards restoring peace and normalcy to the troubled region of Khyber Agency.
He first visited Jawaro near the Pak-Afghan border and reviewed the progress of ongoing operation in its concluding phase, said an ISPR press release. The COAS said the terrorists' strongholds in the agency have been reduced and now fight is in progress in the last few pockets, close to the Pak-Afghan border. "Noose has been tightened and terrorists will not be allowed to re-establish themselves," he added. General Sharif said that the area in which operation has been carried out was heavily infested with improvised explosive devices (IEDs), mostly foreign made and that after North Waziristan Agency (NWA), terrorists in Khyber Agency were using the most rugged terrain as their prepared strongholds. He also visited de-radicalisation centre in Bara those who where surrendered during the Operation Khyber are being imparted education and vocational training. The COAS complimented the tribal brethren for their full support to evict terrorists from the agency and also appreciated their resolve of not allowing terrorists to return back to these areas. General Sharif specially paid tribute to the Shuhada and wounded.
He also complimented the efforts of all law enforcement agencies, their counter-terrorism efforts all across the country. While alluding to the end objective, he affirmed that all terrorists, their facilitator, abettors and financiers will be apprehended and brought to justice. Earlier on his arrival at Khyber Agency, the COAS was received by Lieutenant General Hidayat Ur Rehman, Corps Commander 11 Corps.
