In view of the prevailing heat wave in the city as well as forecast for rains, emergency has been declared at the hospitals of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC). A directive to this effect has been issued by the Administrator of KMC. The hospitals include the Karachi Medical and Dental College, says a KMC statement. It said that the holidays of the doctors, nursing and paramedical staff have been cancelled and directed to report for duty.
The number of dead owing to the prevailing extreme weather in the metropolis has been registered at the KMC hospitals as 67. The Medical and Health Services Department of KMC has asked those fasting to use more and more water after Iftar. The people have been asked not to move outside in sun unnecessarily. They should protect themselves with wet towel and tissue while moving out and avoid sub-standard food and over-ripe fruits.
