Jamaat e Islami Chief Senator Siraj-ul-Haq has criticised the government over claims of tackling power-cuts, saying the claims "have gone to the winds" and that the death of around 260 people in Karachi was a big tragedy.
In a speech to party office-holders in Mansura on Monday, he said, "The rulers are trying to befool the masses through large-size advertisements in newspapers that the problem of power-cuts has been solved. Had the federal and the provincial governments spent on the public welfare projects instead of personal publicity, the energy crisis would have been over and most of the people's problems could have been solved. The rulers have not been able to check theft of electricity so far."
He claimed that "the corrupt and incompetent rulers" were the real problem of the country, and as long as they remained at the helm of the affairs, the situation would never improve. "The good of the masses lies in getting rid of the dishonest rulers and bringing forth honest, competent and dedicated peoples in their place," he added.
He then urged the nation to resolve during Ramazan to renew their struggle for the enforcement of the Nizam e Mustafa and that the struggle for the enforcement of the Islamic system was as obligatory as fasting in Ramazan.
"Allah Almighty had commissioned the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) with a complete code of life which implied wiping out all man-made, false systems of life. The Islamic system ensures just and equitable distribution of resources in the society and was against exploitation and class based society," he said. He also praised the Opposition boycott of the National Assembly in protest against the power-cuts, saying, "Pressure must be increased on the rulers on this score."
