Modern Water and Sanitation Services have been extended to the remaining six divisional headquarters of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. The six divisional headquarters include Abbottabad, Kohat, Mardan, Swat, Bannu and Dera Ismail Khan. Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Pervez Khattak handed over licenses of newly incorporated Water and Sanitation Services Companies (WSSC) to concerned Divisional Commissioners in a meeting held at CM House today.
The Senior Minister for Local Government, Inayatullah, Secretary Local Government, Jamil Ahmed, Chief Executive Officer of WSSP and Secretary Irrigation Muhammad Naeem Khan, the Legal Advisor Shumail Butt, concerned Deputy Commissioners and Municipal Officers were also present on this occasion. WSSC was first launched in Peshawar and remained successful for providing up to the mark Water and Sanitation services. Following the Peshawar model, WSSCs were formed for ensuring unremitting water, sanitation and solid waste management service delivery to the residents of the other divisional headquarters of the province.
After desired execution of the project in the divisional headquarters, WSSCs will be expanded to district level in the next phase, disclosed the Chief Minister Pervez Khattak while speaking to the commissioners. He directed to make WSSCs fully functional from July next for which an amount of two billion rupees has been allocated under Annual Development Program for the fiscal year 2015-16 he added. Highlighting guidelines for running the companies in a smooth manner, the Chief Minister directed that functions and responsibilities of WSSCs must be clearly identified to avoid any duplication or ambiguity in delivery of the municipal services. Regarding mandate of WSSCs, he said besides focusing on primary objective of provision of potable water and cleanliness & sanitation services, the companies must also ensure beautification of the areas of their jurisdiction.
