Representatives of non-Muslims and Civil Society Organisations have demanded of the provincial government to pass the proposed Minority Property Protection Bill without any further delay. They said the bill was aimed at retrieving the properties of minorities, which were either occupied by the government in the name of heritage or land mafia for their personal use.
The demand was made at a consultative meeting on 'Religious Freedom and Minority Rights', organised by South Asia Partnership Pakistan, here at a hotel on Thursday. Those spoke on the occasion were Nusrat Ara, regional co-ordinator, Hashim Raza, a legal adviser, Bishan Lal, Rohan Harun and Kamal. The participants expressed satisfaction over the proposed draft of Minority Rights Commission (MRC) and said that it would be tabled in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Assembly anytime soon. Highlighting issues being faced by minorities in Pakistan, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, they lamented that the KP government had fixed 3 percent quota for minorities but unfortunately it was not being implemented in letter and spirit.
