The government has authorised the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to detain suspected terrorists and others involved in heinous crimes for 90 days under Pakistan Protection Act (PPA), it was learnt. According to the sources, the PPA has been made part of the FIA schedule and the authority will now be authorised to detain alleged culprits of terrorism and other heinous crimes for three months.
The sources said that the decision was taken with respect to the alleged murderers of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) founding leader Dr Imran Farooq and it will enable FIA to have custody of the suspected murderers. The law enforcement agencies had earlier claimed that they have arrested three suspects in the murder case of Dr Imran Farooq who was killed in London on September 16, 2010.
