ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has decided to contact the UK government to seek evidence and sources used in making a BBC documentary, which accuses Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) of receiving funding from India, said Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Thursday. After his meeting with UK High Commissioner Philip Barton, Interior Minister told media persons that following the advice of the UK high commissioner, he will write a letter to the British government today (Friday), requesting it to give access to Pakistan to evidence and sources on which BBC prepared its report.
He said he informed the UK High Commissioner about Pakistan's concerns regarding BBC report which claimed India was funding MQM. He said that he urged the UK High Commissioner for a through investigation into the BBC report for it is also a matter of Pakistan's security. He said the BBC report had made highly sensitive and significant claims; hence the need for a thorough investigation. Khan said that investigations into BBC report would continue till the 'saga' reaches its logical conclusion and Pakistan will make all out efforts to reach evidence. He said high credibility of British courts and BBC is known across the world.
To a question, he said he shared the report of intelligence agencies regarding Indian involvement in financing terrorism in Pakistan with the High Commissioner during his last meeting. "Pakistan has taken up the case and now it is the responsibility of the British government to cooperate with Pakistan in the investigation pertaining to BBC report," he said.
He said the sensitive disclosures made in the BBC report confirmed Pakistan's suspicions about India's involvement in the country. "The recent statements of Indian leadership were a clear indication of foreign involvement", he added. He said the report is more significant than MQM leader Dr Imran Farooq murder case. Interior Minister said that Pakistan's intelligence agencies had provided British authorities with information regarding the Imran Farooq murder case, which helped British investigation authorities a lot in the investigation of that case.
The Interior Minister said the BBC report should not be attributed to the voters and supporters of MQM. This reports is related to some specific people whose investigation will be conducted, he said. He said the two members of the Scotland Yard will reach Pakistan at the end of this week or in the beginning of the next week for the investigation of one of the suspects of the Dr Imran Farooq murder case.
