Provincial Minister for Labour & HR Raja Ashfaq Sarwer alongwith Federal Minister for Defence Production, Science & Technology Rana Tanveer Hussain has said that present government is fully committed to enhance educational ratio, supporting private sectors education institutes imparting information technology and latest educational facilities to the youth. COMSAT University is playing its pivotal role to provide high standard education to the masses as well as children of labour community.
They said, while presiding over a meeting here on Monday, regarding lease and other related matters of COMSAT University, Lahore Campus. Secretary Higher Education Irum Bukhari, Secretary Labour Ishrat Ali, Rector COMSAT Dr S.M. Junaid Zaidi, Director Lahore Campus Dr Mehmood Ahmed Bodlah, Secretary Punjab Workers Welfare Board and concerned officers from Labour, PWWB & COMSAT attended the meeting. Lease extension, labour quota and related matters between PWWB and COMSAT came under discussion in the meeting.
Raja Ashfaq Sarwer while lauding the performance of the institute said that COMSAT University is one of the leading and prestigious institutes of the country providing latest education. Its Lahore Campus was functioning in the premises and building of PWWB which neither can be sold nor transferred as it was in the ownership of PWWB ie labour community. Federal Minister for Science & Technology Rana Tanveer Hussain said that COMSAT administration should submit such proposals to the government so as to provide them 100 to 150 acre of land at Muridke or any other proper place in Lahore by Punjab Government for the construction of their permanent campus and federal government will fully cooperate and fund this Campus for its smooth functioning. Raja Ashfaq Sarwer said that children of secured labour of Punjab are having 30 percent quota in COMSAT, but there are some reservations of PWWB as COMSAT administration is not implementing fully on the settlement for providing them education via this quota. Minister Labour said that COMSAT administration should resolve all related matters with PWWB in mutual consensus as the lease-quota of COMSAT Lahore Campus has already been increased.
