Jamaat-e-Islami Chief Senator Sirajul Haq has blamed the Pakistan Peoples' Party and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz for being jointly responsible for problems being faced by the Sindh province. He was critical of the Karachi situation, telling a press conference in Mansoora after a three-day visit to the port city in the wake of the heatwave-related deaths that the nation wanted thorough an enquiry into allegations levelled against the Muttahida Qaumi Movement, adding the matter should never be wound up as had been done in the past.
He said the allegations against it were never new and that weekly Takbeer Editor Syed Salahuddin had gathered the entire evidence against it and then he was gunned down for it. He urged the premier to hold a cabinet meeting in Karachi. "All decisions should be taken in consultation with all political parties, above party politics," and stressed that all political appointments made in different departments and agencies in Karachi had to be scrapped and fresh recruitment be made strictly on merit. He also called for preparing a 50-year plan for Karachi plus a Rs 300 billion special package.
