Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif presided over a high level meeting here on Monday which reviewed the law and order situation in the province, project of setting up Punjab Police Integrated Command, Control and Communication Center and measures taken for elimination of terrorism under the national action plan evolved with national consensus.
Provincial Law Minister Rana Sanaullah, Home Minister Colonel Shuja Khanzada (Retd), Member Provincial Assembly Syed Zaeem Hussain Qadri, Special Assistant Rana Maqbool Ahmad, Chief Secretary, inspector General Police, concerned secretaries, Advocate General Punjab and other senior officers were present in the meeting.
Addressing the meeting, the Chief Minister said that Punjab government is taking all out measures and providing necessary resources for the protection of life and property of citizens and further improvement of law and order situation. Timely and effective measures have been taken under NAP against terrorism and extremism, and encouraging results are being witnessed. He said the project of setting up Punjab Police Integrated Command, Control and Communication Center is of vital importance for controlling crime and this project will also be started in Rawalpindi, Multan, Gujranwala and Faisalabad under a phased programme.
Shahbaz Sharif said that under the project of Punjab Police Integrated Command, Control and Communication Center, all police stations of Lahore will be integrated with the center and the modern command and control center will help in keeping a watchful eye on criminal elements and miscreants through digital monitoring of the city. This center will not only result in substantial improvement in law and order situation but also in the monitoring of streets and bazaars through digital technology.
He said the search operations should be accelerated in an effective manner in Lahore as well as other areas of the province and modern technology should be fully utilised for this purpose. The Chief Minister issued instructions for further improving the security of mosques, Imam Bargahas and worship places in the province and said not only additional force be deputed at sensitive places but special attention should also be paid in this regard. He said indiscriminate action against publication and distribution of literature creating hatred should be continued and the law regarding ban on loudspeaker and wall-chalking should be strictly implemented. He said provocative speeches cannot be tolerated and indiscriminate action should be taken under the law against the elements delivering such speeches as there is a need for promoting sentiments of brotherhood, peace and tolerance in the society.
