KWSB officials have informed Karachi Commissioner on Tuesday that the metropolis may experience a shortfall of 40 million gallon water daily for a day or two due to fault developed in its diesel run pumps at Dhabeji pumping station. Karachi Commissioner Shoaib Ahmad Siddiqui chairing a meeting to review measures required to improve water distribution system was informed by KWSB officials that one of the diesel pumps was out of order since June 22 and the other developed fault on Monday night only.
They also mentioned that one the two faulty machines would be repaired and put back to work by this evening while the other one would resume regular functioning on Friday. The water shortfall was said to thus remain 30 million gallon water daily for another two to three days affecting water supply to certain localities that would be catered through water tanker service on regular basis.
The meeting also attended by Additional Commissioner of Karachi, Javaid Sibghatullah Mahar, Deputy Commissioner from all districts of Karachi and all chief engineers of KWSB shared details of water supply status and distribution in their respective areas of jurisdiction. Officials on the occasion also complained of suspension of water supply to Dumloti Pumping Station and said 12 hours to 13 hours long loadshedding was resorted at the facility while earlier the duration was of four hours.
