The Indus River System Authority (IRSA) has stored 9 MAF water in the Mangla dam, Tarbela dam and Chashma reservoir till 30th June prior to the start of 2015 monsoon season against the total storage capacity of 13.4 MAF water. Sources in Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) told Business Recorder that the water regulatory body had stored 2.613 MAF water in the Tarbela dam on the river Indus and 6.284 MAF in the Mangla dam on the river Jhelum and 0.118 MAF in the Chashma reservoir on the mighty Indus.
They said that the Mangla dam has been filled up to 1227.50 ft just 15 ft short of its maximum upgraded height of 1242 ft. The Tarbela dam has been filled up to the level of 1474 ft against its maximum height of 1550 ft above the sea level. The authorities are presently discharging more water from Tarbela dam than inflow so that sufficient space is kept to manage flood water in the river Indus during the monsoon season starting next week.

The Punjab Irrigation department is discharging 20,000 cusecs water in the Marala - Ravi link canal to supplement water supplies in the river Ravi command areas of Lahore, Kasur, Okara, Sahiwal, Khanewal and Multan districts.
Meanwhile IRSA is supplying 191,900 cusecs water to Sindh province at Guddu barrage, 134,100 cusecs at Sukkur and 49,100 cusecs water at Kotri barrage. After filling all irrigation canals to their capacity, the Sindh Irrigation is throwing 8,400 cusecs in the Indus delta.
