Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday issued notices to the Director General of Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) and Secretary Defence in the missing lawyer case. Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui of the IHC directed DG ISI to depute an officer not below the rank of director to brief and assist the court in the matter.
Expressing dissatisfaction over the police efforts for the recovery of missing lawyer, the court warned the Inspector General Islamabad that in case anything happened to the missing persons, the police high-ups would be held responsible. Lawyer Hammad Dadan went missing on the night of June 20 while he was with his cousin Abdullah Umar and Ammar Dadan.
Umar, an al Qaeda affiliated suspect, is implicated in the murder of FIA's prosecutor Chaudhry Zulfiqar. He was released on bail in July last year but is currently facing trial in the said murder case in Anti Terrorism Court (ATC) of Islamabad. IHC Justice Siddiqui directed the police to produce missing persons before the court on July 3.
However, IG Islamabad Tahir Alam Khan informed the court that the location of missing lawyer had been traced and he was somewhere in Peshawar. He assured the court that a team of competent officers would be dispatched to Peshawar. In the petition, advocate Mumtaz Anwar Abbasi contended that his son Advocate Hammad Dadan, along with three friends went to Masjid Imam Abu Daud near PIMS for Taraweeh prayers on June 20 and all four were arrested but later Ahmed was released on the spot. The court adjourned the case till July 3.
