In order to ensure maintenance of law and order, avert any mismanagement and violence on the eve of re-polling on the 358 polling stations in connection with local bodies election of the province, a high level meeting with IGP Nasir Khan Durrani in the chair was held here on Wednesday. Additional IGPs Special Branch, Headquarters, Operations, DIGs CTD, Operations, Headquarter, CCPO, all Regional Police Officers and DPOs of Nowshera, Charsadda, Swabi, Buner and Karak attended the meeting.
The meeting thoroughly reviewed the re-polling arrangements and various decisions were taken for providing foolproof security particularly on polling stations. All Regional Police Officers gave a detailed briefing about the re-polling in their jurisdiction. The IGP directed the RPOs to hold a meeting with candidates and their political leaderships and also call DROs in the said meeting and work out a detailed agreement with it.
Under the agreement to be signed with them they will nominate ladies polling agents and ladies supervisors on the women polling stations and men entry will be strictly prohibited there.
The agreement will also include that no procession whatsoever will be taken out and police will collect lists of presiding officers from them. The candidates and their political leadership will constitute a committee which will be responsible for the solution of any emerging problems and issues amongst them. Beside this the IGP also directed the participants to create a big security zone outside each polling station. The IGP also directed that rapid response force will remain present on its respective places and in case of any untoward incident their response time should not be more than five minutes.
They were also directed for proper logging of all wireless messages, sending of all report of checking and carrying of video cameras in the vehicle of SHO and SDPO. The IGP categorically made it clear that re-polling must be held in peaceful atmosphere and directed the police officers to perform duty with extreme care and professional manner so that free and transplant re-polling be ensured.
