Over one million saplings in Karachi and more than three million saplings would be planted during July and August in Sindh in a plantation campaign, on the directives of Sindh Information and Local Government Minister, Sharjeel Inam Memon. According to a statement issued on Thursday, he has announced to launch the plantation campaign to stop environment degradation in the province.
The minister also issued instructions to the Secretary Local Government Sindh, Administrator Karachi, Managing Director Water Board, Administrators of all districts, municipal and deputy commissioners to ensure mass participation in the campaign.
He has directed to immediately launch the campaign to achieve the target in time and to launch awareness campaign to educate the masses about importance of greenery and cleanliness.
Earlier, Memon said that around 65,000 people were affected by heat wave in Karachi.
Talking to Radio Pakistan, he said, "provincial government provides best facilities to those people in hospitals, which is our responsibility". He said the federal government will launch green bus scheme in Karachi, where as the provincial government has also launched blue line and yellow line projects.
