Sindh High Court (SHC) on Thursday issued notice to the provincial home secretary, director general of Rangers, Sindh police chief and others to file comments on a petition seeking whereabouts of Muhammad Ali Sheikh, the brother of Pakistan Peoples Party's former lawmaker, allegedly detained by the paramilitary troops for his involvement in land frauds.
Petitioner Abida Parveen, the wife of Muhammad Ali Sheikh, moved the court seeking its directions to the law enforcers for disclosing the whereabouts of her spouse.
She submitted that on June 18, unidentified persons had picked up her husband and his friend from the airport when he was about to fly to USA to get his green card renewed, which expired on June 22. She added since then, the whereabouts of his husband were unknown to her.
The woman petitioner told the judges that later she learnt through the newspapers about detention of her spouse by the paramilitary troops for his alleged involvement in the corrupt practices. Subsequently, she said, she approached the head of Airport police station to lodge an FIR regarding his detention, but the police officers were reluctant to entertain her plea.
She submitted her spouse was PPP's staunch supporter and because of his political affiliation, he was being victimised. The petitioner pleaded the judges to issue directives for the law enforcers to produce her husband in the court.
