The provincial government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is going to establish its own Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) Development Authority (SMEDA) to facilitate in creation of business enabling environment for the private sector to come forward, grow and prosper.
According to the White Paper on the budget for financial year 2015-16, the vision of the industries department, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is to support growth of locally and internationally competitive industries, generating employment and technological up-gradation. To advocate sustained growth in export, government revenues and industrial and service sector profits.
The provincial government has adopted policy primarily business to be left to the private sector, while the ensuing economic activity and growth will lead to increase employment opportunities, leading to poverty reduction and increase in earnings and income. The public sector will facilitate provision of state of the art infrastructure.
The provincial government believes that industrial sector can play a pivotal role in the uplift and well-being of a nation. The main focus in the industrial sector is to produce skilled manpower, essential for the industrialization of the province.
In order to meet the increasing demand for skilled workers in various production and service sectors of the province, the technical education and manpower department will mainly concentrate on establishing, polytechnic institutes, technical and vocational institutes through its ongoing and new portfolio. An allocation of Rs 3.471 billion has been made for total of 36 projects out of which 28 are ongoing with allocation of Rs 2.541 billion and 8 are new with allocation of Rs 930 million.
The major targets set-up to be achieved during the sector are included the establishment of small industrial estate Swat, establishment of construction machinery training institute at Swabi, conducting feasibility study for establishment of campus of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa University of Technology at Swabi.
Similarly, the provincial government will also construct 132kv grid station at Industrial Estate Hattar and will acquire land for small industrial estate Swat, one liner provision for improvement and development of technical education and support to Economic Zone Development and Management Company (EZDMC).
