Huawei overtakes Apple as second largest smartphone manufacturer
Huawei, which previously held the third spot in world’s largest smartphone manufacturers, has surpassed Apple and pushed it to number three spot.
Rapidly climbing up the ladder, Huawei took the spot as the world’s second largest smartphone manufacturer, beating the-then second position holder Apple to the third. Samsung still remains in lead as the first largest one.
Data from analysts including International Data Corporation (IDC) and Strategy Analytics discovered that during 2018’s second quarter, Huawei sold more smartphone than any other company other than Samsung, which sold 73 million handsets, regardless of the fact that Samsung’s smartphones sales dramatically fell by 10% from last year, wrote 9to5Mac.

In the meantime where Samsung’s sales dropped, Huawei had better sales of 54.2 million devices, overtaking Apple’s projections by over 10 million, which sold 41.3 million units, and capturing 15% of the worldwide market share. Apple had 12.1% share whereas the healthy leader Samsung had 20.9%.
The analysts also stated that though Apple’s sales grew, they aren’t growing as fast as the Chinese manufacturer Huawei and also Xiaomi. However, Apple might catch up with its upcoming iPhones being released this fall and take back its position.
