Incidents of killings have significantly reduced by 53 percent, as 501 people were killed since January 2015 against 1062 persons during the same period of corresponding years. However, 'target killings' remained almost the same as 113 people were targeted during the last six months, as compared to 118 in the same period of previous years. Data compiled by Sindh Police revealed that as many as 109 persons fell, prey to the incidents of 'killings' in January 2015, 67 in February, 71 in March, 68 in April, 115 in May while 71 were killed in the June.
It's worth mentioning here that mobile snatching incidents went up by 56 percent or 10462 cases (with the average of 58 mobile phones per day) since January as against 6695 cases during the same time period of last year. No significant reduction was witnessed in various heads of crime, particularly in dacoity/robbery cases, extortion, kidnapping for ransom, and wheelers snatching incidents.
Some 769 cases of street robberies occurred during last 6 moths as compared to 691 cases in the corresponding period of previous year. Dacoity and robbery incidents kept on taking place in different areas of the city. There was a slight decrease in dacoity as 406 incidents were registered during last 6 months as against 421 robbery cases during the same period last year.
Police arrested some 15358 accused involved in various heads of crime during the last six months. Out of whom some 174 alleged murderers were arrested, 235 were arrested under Anti-terrorism Act, 13 kidnappers, 63 extortionists, 476 robbers/dacoits, 2585 were apprehended over violation of arms ordinance, 2343 accused arrested under Narcotics Act, 87 proclaimed offenders, 1522 absconders and 1522 involved in committing petty crime were also arrested during the said time period.
A significant reduction of almost 50 percent was witnessed in the incidents of kidnapping for ransom, as 25 cases were registered during the period under review, compared to 51 cases in the same period last year. Similarly, some 115 cases of extortion were registered during last six months as compared to 264 cases in the corresponding period of previous year.
Only one bomb blast was occurred since January 2015 against 24 bomb blast incident occurred during the same period of last year. Reduction was also witnessed in 4-wheelers snatching incidents as 1122 cases took place since January 2015 against 1652 cases registered during the same period of last year. In the same way 8947 cases of two wheeler snatchings were registered against 9045 cases during the corresponding period last year. Some 55 policemen lost their lives while performing duties during the period under review. Some 18 cops were gunned down in January 2015, three were targeted in February, 15 in March, and seven in April, nine in May while three were killed in June.
