The Jamaat-e-Islami leader has lauded the Nawaz Sharif-Narendra Modi meeting in Ufa, Russia, claiming that the encounter is significant in the present scenario, but India's intransigence to pursue her own agenda is the biggest hurdle in the success of the talks.
Acting Chief Liaqat Baloch said in a statement on Saturday, "Premier Nawaz Sharif has avoided taking a firm and clear stance before and during the meeting though this is the best opportunity to talk bluntly about the Indian aggression, her involvement in terrorism in the country and the held Kashmir case." He said whereas Pakistan had cancelled a dinner for Kashmiri leaders, India was never ready to talk on Kashmir, nor would Premier Moodi abandon his aggressive policy.
He said it was time that Islamabad adopted a firm policy on her relations with India, talks and regional issues through a national consensus as had been in the case of the Pak China Economic Corridor. "The premier should not fall into India's trap of a false diplomacy since this is time to adopt a strong policy with the neighbouring country," he added. He also met former Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Justice Iftekhar Muhammad Chaudhry to talk about matters of mutual interest. He then met the Iranian ambassador and Jamaat Ulema Islam Chief Maulana Fazlur Rahman.
His senior deputy chief Professor Khurshid Ahmed accompanied him. He then visited the home of late Sardar Abdul Qayyum Khan and condoled with his son, Sardar Attique Ahmed Khan, and the family. He said he was happy with Pakistan becoming a full member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation, but stressed that the country could play an effective role at international level only it were freed from corruption, nepotism and terrorism.
