Executive Board Meeting (EBM) of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has decided to file Supplementary Reference against Mufti Ahsan and 36 others in multi-billion rupee Modaraba Scam. Chairman NAB, Qamar Zaman Chaudhry presided over the meeting of EBM. Chairman said NAB is committed to eradicate corruption and corrupt practices from the country by adopting zero tolerance. He directed NAB officials to work honestly, dedication and conduct complaint verification, inquiries and investigations against corrupt in accordance with laid down laws transparency and on merit.
It was told that Mufti Ehsan-ul-Haq, CEO Ms Fayazi Gujranwala Industries PVT LTd and others have swindled Rs 8 billion of public on the pretext of Modarba and Musharika. The Board authorised three investigations and six inquiries in different cases of corruption against former Revenue Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Syed Mureed Kazim, Ahsan Ullah and others for illegal transfer of 1976 kanals of state land in Dera Ismail Khan as alternate to Naval Families Rehabilitation Organisation (NFRO), Bahawalpur and subsequent allotment of 182 kanal residential and commercial state land to revenue officers. The case of Cdr Sarfraz Afzal (rtd) of NFRO was referred to Pakistan Navy for appropriate action. Another investigation was authorised against officials of Revenue Departments, who were involved in illegal allotment of 530 acres of state land to private persons causing Rs 530 billion losses. Another investigation was authorised against the officials of PTB Tobacco Board Research Station for causing Rs 33.2 million losses to the national exchequer.
The executive board authorised inquiries against former Chairman Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) Syed Asif Hashmi, ETPB officials Faizan Shams, Junaid Ahmed, Sheraz Hashmi and others for causing losses to ETPB of Rs 721 million. Inquiry was ordered against Mujeebullah Siddiqui, a builder/businessmen for illegal acquisition of government land causing million of rupee losses to national exchequer.
An inquiry was also authorised against management of Saindak Metal Limited, Metallurgical Contracting Company and MRLD for excavation of one percent gold under the cover of blister copper without paying levy and duties to government causing billion of rupees losses. Inquiry was authorised against Ms Neelam Corporation on wilful loan default of Rs 83.734 million of Bank Islami Pakistan Ltd. Another inquiry was orders against Directors/guarantors of Ms Trans Livia PVT limited on wilful loan default of Bank of Islami worth Rs 104.722 million.
EBM decided to authorise Complaint Verification against the management of Karachi Port Trust Co-operative Housing Society for illegal allotment of plots to former Senator Sardar Fateh Muhammad Hasni. EBM approved the application of voluntary return of former Chief Executive PESCO Muhammad Wali amounting to Rs 31.5 million. The accused person is alleged to have accumulation of assets beyond known sources of income.
The EBM decided to close the inquiry of former Managing Director Pakistan Television Qazi Mustafa Kamal, former MPA Naeem ullah Shani and former Tehsil Nazim Bhakkar Aleem Ullah Shani, investigation against Mian Muhammad Ajmal, Chief Executive of Ms Blossom Towel Industry Hattar, Ms Yasmin, District Education Officer Schools district Jacobad, Shan Muhammad Brohi and complaint verification against Finance Minister, Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah, Secretary Finance Sindh, Sohail Rajput and other due to lack of incriminating evidence.
EBM decided to transfer the ghost employment cases against officers/ officials of Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) from FIA to NAB. In the case the accused were involved in illegal and fraudulent opening of bank accounts in the name of different people for crediting bogus and fake salaries obtained from KMC.
