Cumulative urea and di-ammonia phosphate (DAP) off-take for the first two months of the current Kharif season 2015-16 has registered an increase of 18.4 percent and 17.2 percent respectively over the same time period of Kharif 2014-15. According to Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco) report, during first two months of Kharif season 2015-16 (April-May), urea off-take was about 788,000 tons showing an increase of 18.4 percent while DAP off-take was 179,000 tons showing an increase of 17.2 percent over same timeframe of 2014-15.
During the same period, the nitrogen and phosphate off-take increased by 18.1 and 20 percent respectively. The potash off-take decreased by 10.9 percent. The report further said the total urea availability during May 2015 was about 745,000 tons. This comprised 356,000 tons of previous month carryover stock and domestic production of 389,000 tons, it said.
It said that urea off-take during May 2015 was about 422,000 tons. Thus the opening balance at the beginning of June 2015 works to be 323,000 tons. Total availability of DAP during May 2015 was 274,000 tons comprising 168,000 tons inventory, 34,000 tons imported supplies and 72,000 tons of local production. DAP off-take during May was about 110,000 tons. The opening balance at the beginning of June 2015 works to be about 165,000 tons.
According to official document of Ministry of National Food Security and Research (MNFS&R), total availability of Urea for Kharif season will be 2,740,000 tons comprising 151,000 tons of opening balance, 39,000 tons of imported supplies and 2,550,000 tons of domestic production. Urea off-take is expected to be around 2,900,000 tons. Total availability of DAP will be 490,000 tons against expected off-take of 600,000 tons.
