British Minister of State for International Development from the Department for International Development (DFID) Desmond Swayne along with Ali Sarfaraz CEO of the Punjab Skills Development Fund (PSDF), and Roshaneh Zafar, Managing Director of Kashf Foundation visited a Kashf-run vocational training centre for domestic tailoring funded by PSDF in Manawala near Bedian.
In the visit, the dignitaries along with Kashf Foundation staff assessed the performance of the training centre, and interacted with the students and staff at the centre. The trainings provided at these vocational centres aim to promote quality training and provide access to training opportunities for women at the community level to empower them to gain skills that can help them become economically active.
Desmond Swayne commended the work being done by Kashf Foundation and PSDF and lauded the success of the graduates. Sarfaraz appreciated the role that the UK government was playing for bringing vocational training opportunities across Punjab. Roshaneh Zafar said that more than 13 percent of the graduates had accessed loans from Kashf Foundation to set up their businesses and use the skills they had acquired through the trainings to become self-employed.
Currently under this programme, Kashf Foundation is running 20 vocational training centres across villages in Lahore which are supported by the PSDF through which an additional 376 low-income women will graduate by the end of August 2015.-PR
