The provincial government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has decided the completion of the repairing and reconstruction of damaged communications and other facilities through Frontier Works Organization (FWO). For this purpose consensus has been developed among KP government, Pakistan Army and FWO. The consensus was evolved during a meeting held in Chitral with KP Chief Minister Pervez Khattak in the chair.
Those who attended were included Commandant Chitral Scouts, Colonel Naeem Iqbal, Wing Commander, Chitral Scouts Colonel Mehmood, Commanding Officer (Engineers Battalion) Colonel Pirzada, Commanding Officer (Construction) Colonel Jamal, Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) KP Dr, Hammad Owais Agha, Chief Engineer (CE) Communication and Works, Daud Khan, Deputy Commissioner Chitral and other officials.
During the meeting the draft of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government and Pakistan Army was approved, which will be signed by the concerned authorities of both parties soon. According to the MoU FWO will start repairing and rehabilitation work on flood damaged roads, bridges and other infrastructure facilities in Kalash, Garam Cheshma and Mastuj valley on emergency bases. For this purpose, the KP government will initially release an amount of Rs 300 million. The identification of the schemes for rehabilitation will be made by the Department of Communication, Malakand in consultation with Army Headquarters.
The big schemes pinpointed for rehabilitation are included 24-kilometer Ayun-Bomborait Road, 43-Kilometer Chitral-Garam Cheshma Road and Chitral Road. Speaking in the meeting, the KP Chief Minister said that keeping in view the difficulties of the provincial government, the Pakistan Army should also consider the completion of the schemes of annual development programme (ADP) in Chitral. So these schemes could be timely completed in the lager interest of the people of far-flung area.
The chief minister said that the provincial government is even interested in the completion of routine schemes in district Chitral through FWO and National Logistic Cell (NLC) and ensure the durability of these schemes. He appreciated the full support of the military authorities in the rehabilitation and repair activities of the provincial government in the flood affected areas of Chitral and expressed the hope that this cooperation between Pakistan Army and KP government will remain continue in future too, which help mitigate the difficulties of the affectees of calamity hit areas.
