Advisor to Chief Minister Punjab on Health Khawaja Salman Rafique has said that 133 medical teams of Health Department are busy to provide medical facilities to the flood affectees in 67 union councils of six districts ie Dera Ghazi Khan, Muzaffargarh, Layyah, Mianwali, Rahim Yar Khan and Rajanpur. He said that these include 87 static and 46 mobile teams. Moreover, five Mobile Health Units are available in Bahawalpur, Rajanpur, D.G. Khan and Muzaffargarh which could be sent to other areas in the need of hour.
He said this while giving details about his visit to the flood affected areas, here Sunday. Kh. Salman Rafique further said that on the instructions of Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, all the departments, agencies and district governments are looking after the flood affectees round the clock and medical facilities as well as food is being provided three times in relief camps. Kh. Salman Rafique told that health department's medical teams had provided treatment to 15045 flood affectees till July 25. These teams vaccinated 1565 children against Polio, 896 children against measles and 1072 tetanus toxoid injections inoculated to different people. He said that according to the survey mostly people are coming with skin diseases, acute respiratory infection, fever etc while only 1.2% cases of Gastro-enteritis are reported. Khawaja Salman Rafique further said that ORS packets and aquapura tablets have also been distributed among the people to protect them from diarrhoea and dehydration. He said that the vials of anti snake venom and anti- rabies vaccine have also been provided to the medical teams. He said that Health Department has asked WHO and UNICEF to provide 40 medical kits and two million tablets of aquapura to meet future needs if more floods come.
