The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has constituted three committees i.e. "Communication Committee", "Income Tax Committee", and "Sales Tax Committee" to facilitate business community to become filers and resolve their issues of income and sales taxes. A senior FBR official said that the representatives of traders associations and chambers present in the meeting assured the tax authorities that they would not participate in any shutter down strike on August 1 or 5.
The FBR and representatives of business community convened a meeting at Conference Room of FBR (HQs) here on Tuesday under an agreement signed between business community and FBR on July 9, 2015. It has been decided that the income tax and sales tax committees shall submit their reports by August 13, 2015. The first meeting of these committees will be held on July 31 (Friday) at FBR (HQs). The meeting was attend by Rana Muhammad Afzal Khan, MNA, Parliamentary Secretary Finance, Mian Abdul Mannan, MNA and Malik Pervez, MNA, Haroom Akhtar Khan, Special Assistant to PM on Revenue, Tariq Bajwa, Chairman FBR, Shahid Hussain Asad, Senior Member (Inland Revenue Policy), FBR and following representatives of FPCCI, various Chambers of Commerce & Industry across the country and leaders of the Traders community all over the country including Sheikh Muhammad Asif, Anjum Mahmood Butt, Muhammad Ali Mian, Zubair Tufail, S. Khalid Tawab, Syed Asad Mashhadi, Ashfaq Tola, Muzammal Hussain Sabri, Amir Waheed, Aslam Bhalli, Ali Din, Seth Naeem, Sheikh Babar Khurana, Mian Saqib Ghafoor, Chaudhry Ghulam Sabir, Malik Sohail Hussain, Naeem Yunus Butt, Muhammad Fayyaz Butt and Khawaja Tanveer Ashraf.
The agenda of the meeting was to facilitate business community to become filer and thus avoid imposition of Withholding Tax under Section 236P of Income Tax Ordinance, 2001, as well as to resolve related issues pertaining to Income Tax and Sales Tax and to evolve an effective communication strategy on educating the public and specifically traders on the rational of this tax measure for documentation of economy and broadening of tax base. After detailed discussion, it was unanimously decided to form three committees namely "Communication Committee", "Income Tax Committee", and "Sales Tax Committee" as under:

Sales Tax Committee: Rana Muhammad Afzal Khan MNA, Parliamentary Secretary Finance(Convener); Muhammad Ashraf Khan Member (Inland Revenue Operations), FBR; Ashfaq Tola TRC/TAC; Asif Haroon FCA; Kashif Anwar; S. Khalid Tawab FPCCI; Syed Asad Mashhadi President Rawalpindi Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry and Engineer Rizwan Rawalpindi Islamabad Chamber of Commerce & Industry. The above three Committees will have the powers to co-opt other members if considered necessary.
