Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Minister for Finance, Muzaffar Syed Advocate has said that the provincial government was taking the bold step of delegation of power to the grass root level to strengthen the local government system to deliver efficiently at local level to solve problems of people.
This, he said while talking to two member team of Department for International Development (DFID), UK, comprising Judith Herbertson, Deputy Head & Head of Basic service Group and Claire Vallings, Senior Governance & Team leader Sub-National Governance in Peshawar. Fahim Siddique, Special Secretary Finance and Kamran Rahman Additional Secretary Finance were also present on the occasion.
The Finance Minister appreciated the financial support extended by DFID for the reformation of Education, health and local government system in the province. The DFID team expressed interest in the improvement of educational and health services and local government system. While briefing the DFID team about the development strategies of the provincial government, the Finance minister explained, that despite various challenges including terrorism and disasters, the coalition government was committed to fulfil its promises made to the people.
He went on to Say that transparency and accountability were priority areas of the present government to reform the system. "The provincial government is seriously working for improvement of education and health facilities and strengthening of basic democracy", he maintained. The minister claimed that as compared to other provinces of the country, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government was more serious in transferring power to the local level.
"Very soon there will be an efficient local government system in the province and each village council will have a proper office and staff to serve the people in the best manner" he asserted. Urging the capacity building of the elected local government representatives to deliver in excellent manner, he said that the provincial government had increased local govt.
