The talks between the government and trade leaders have not yielded positive results so far, and now further round will be held after shutter down strike (August 01), said trade bodies' leaders in a joint press conference at Chowk Clock Tower, here on Wednesday.
More than sixty leaders representing various trade bodies have announced that jewellers, yarn merchants, cloth dealers and transporters will also be joined shutter down strike, which will be held on August 01 as a mark of protest against multiple and wide scale taxation in the country including 0.3 percent withholding tax on bank transactions.
The leaders of Supreme Council of Anjuman-e-Tajran Faisalabad, City Cloth Board, Electronics and Mobile dealers Association, PML-N Traders Group and local transporters have announced that a protest rally and protest camp will be established on August 1st.
Addressing the media persons, Sheikh Bashir Ahmad, Haji Muhammad Aslam Bhalli, Shoaib Thakir, Muhammad yousaf Moti, Abbas Haider Sheikh, Hafiz Mohammad Shafi, Choudhry Ghulam Sarwar and Shahbaz Gull Batt said that the rounds of talks not yielding fruits and mentioned that the government not serious about addressing their reservations of the business community. Sixty representatives jointly announced to go on strike on August 1 and said that all yarn and cloth markets including wholesale business including small scale hosieries and business will be closed.
They claimed that all trade bodies attended the meeting with the government but the government side did not seem to be serious about resolving the issues of taxation. The speakers explained that the traders were not against the widening of the tax net but the government should collect tax after consultation with the people concerned. Meanwhile, transporters associations announced to support the strike call.
