Adviser to the Prime Minister on National Security and Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz has reiterated Pakistan's commitment to have constructive engagement with Afghanistan for regional peace and stability. According to Foreign Office spokesperson Qazi Khalilullah, the Adviser was talking to a seven-member delegation of the British Parliament at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday.
"He highlighted Pakistan's efforts to fight terrorism and extremism and reiterated the government's commitment to take forward the process of constructive engagement with Afghanistan," the spokesperson said, adding Aziz also shed light on the vision of the Prime Minister for promotion of regional peace and stability.
The Adviser also told the delegation that Pakistan enjoyed friendly and warm relations with the United Kingdom which had been further strengthened during last two years. "These ties exist in a wide range of co-operation including economic, culture and education. The presence of a large number of Pakistani diaspora in the United Kingdom acts as a bridge between the two countries," Aziz said. He congratulated the parliamentarians on their elections to the Parliament.
The Adviser provided a comprehensive overview of the domestic political situation of Pakistan. He stressed that the democratic process was becoming stronger. He also emphasised that Pakistan was an investor's friendly country and had a vibrant media. The visiting parliamentarians, according to the spokesperson, appreciated Pakistan's role in fighting the menace of terrorism. They stressed the importance of enhancing bilateral trade and co-operation in various fields, especially education. "There was a frank exchange of views on regional and global issues. The meeting was held in a friendly and cordial atmosphere," the spokesperson added.
